Terms of service

Effective 3 November 2026.

These terms cover the hosted FactLot service: the API at api.factlot.com and paid plans. The open-source code is governed by its licences (Apache-2.0 and MIT), not by these terms.

The service

FactLot returns deterministic calculations, identifiers, and cited public-record facts. It is a tool, not advice: results are not legal, tax, accounting, appraisal, lending, or investment advice. A qualified person should review any result used for a decision. Read the warnings each result returns.

Data and sources

Registry facts come from public records, and each carries its source's licence. You agree to follow those licences, including attribution where a source requires it. Public records can be wrong or out of date; each fact shows its source and date so you can check it.

Acceptable use

Do not attack, overload, or probe the service; do not get around rate limits or share a paid key outside your organisation; do not use FactLot to identify, profile, or contact private individuals. We may suspend access that breaks these rules.

Paid plans

Plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe and renew until cancelled. Cancel any time from the billing portal; access continues to the end of the paid period. For billing problems or refunds, email contact@factlot.com. We will give at least 30 days' notice of a price change for existing subscribers.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the service available but do not guarantee it. The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. FactLot's total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid in the three months before it. We may change these terms; material changes will be posted here with a new date.
